Nailing Market Bottoms

market regime strategy video Feb 15, 2021

It's a festive time of year in our household this week.

First of all, today is my Birthday and I have this tradition that is built to become more difficult each year. I started this tradition exactly 13 years ago today, in Iraq of all places.

At the time the movie 300 was out and me and my cohort of merry marauders were super fans, pretty much having the movie playing on loop 24/7.

We found out that this gym Gymjones.com was who trained them and they, and they had a special workout they did at the beginning and end of their training.

So naturally we were big fans of the workout and GymJones as well, you can probably see where this is going.

My great idea was to create my own Birthday workout, a bunch of really hard exercises with one rep for each year on this planet.

Today's workout was

Birthday workout:
Reps = Age (47 for me)

  • Weighted jump ropes
  • Burpees
    ----Throw on Body Armor/Weight Vest----
  • Tire flips 300# tire
    ----(Next. With Dumbbells 52.5# each)----
  • Front squats
  • Bent over rows
  • Shoulder press
  • Bench press
  • Calve raises (A tribute to a good friend of mine as a joke)
  • Power cleans
  • Shouldering heavy bag
    ---drop armor---
  • Run to the top of mountain and back (6.5 miles)

I finished everything in 45:14 (minus the run...I took my time with that one after all that)

Every year I add one rep, I change up the exercises based on my location, but every year it does get harder and harder. Every year, while everyone asks me what I want to have for a birthday meal or which restaurant, I tell them all I'm looking forward to is this amazing thrash session. As a bonus the meal after ends up being glorious regardless of what I eat!

Now that you suffered through my recount of that let's get to business.

My friend Seth Golden at https://www.finomgroup.com reached out to me last week about collaborating on an article about market bottoms to his subscribers.

He also put together this YouTube video covering his process in getting positioned at the CoVid19 March bottom (a good week before I did- well done sir!).

Watch Video

If you've been following my emails I talk about how I got positioned coming out of the March lows and got long NQ futures on April 5th, but I note on my chart that the absolute BEST TRADERS bought March 23rd, that's what Seth did.

As a refresher, here's the chart I've been sharing all year.

"Best trader in the world buys here" That's where Seth got positioned

"I however buy here" I waited for the market to pull me in to the trade.

Two traders, two approaches.

There are a bunch of ways to be successful in markets, and thousands (maybe more) of ways to lose money.

As you know I let the market regimes reign supreme, identifying the frame of reference (we talked about that yesterday), and then gathering insights into the different characteristics of each regime so you can recognize the micro regimes within the major regimes.

This is the work we do in the Trading Lab every day, working with each other to improve our systems, improve our trading, and improve ourselves. It's an amazing community and I'd love for you to join us!
